Internet of Things (IoT)
Acer clearly didn’t waste time three months after its COMPUTEX event, as the company has finally brought in the thin and light Swift Edge 16 laptop that was part of the highlight back then, and the Aspire S Series All-in-One desktops.
Internet of Things (IoT) Acer Swift Edge 16
We did a hands-on with the Swift Edge 16 and found it to be a great improvement over its predecessor, it still retains an attractive magnesium alloy chassis that measures 12.95mm thin and weighs only 1.17kg, though instead of the Dark Green finish, we are getting the Flax White finish here.
Offered in CPU options of an AMD Ryzen 7 7735U or AMD Ryzen 5 7535U processor, it is a little disappointing that we aren’t getting the faster Ryzen 7 7840U processor, the laptop comes with 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM as standard and up to 1TB of PCIe Gen 4 SSD storage, no 32GB RAM variant is offered unfortunately, but it now has a TwinAir cooling system that offers much better heat dissipation than its single-fan predecessor, which we should see longer sustained performance in CPU intensive tasks.
The laptop’s 16-inch display has however gotten a resolution downgrade from 4K OLED to a 3.2K OLED panel, though it isn’t noticeable by all means due to the screen size, you do at least get a faster refresh rate at 120Hz and 0.2ms of response time.
Despite not getting the more powerful variant that we saw at COMPUTEX 2023, the Acer Swift Edge 16 starts at a rather attractive price tag of RM3,999 for the Ryzen 5 and 512GB storage model, while the Ryzen 7 model retails for RM4,399 and comes with 1TB of storage.
Internet of Things (IoT) Acer Aspire S Series AIO Desktops
If you are looking for an iMac alternative, the new Acer Aspire S Series AIO desktops come in 31.5-inch and 27-inch models, powered by the Core i7-1360P and Core i5-1240P processor respectively, these AIO desktops feature a 2560×1440 resolution narrow bezel display that can be tilted.
Interestingly, these AIO desktops feature magnetically attached webcams instead of building into the panel, the Aspire S27 offers a 1080p webcam while the Aspire S32 offers a much higher resolution 1440p webcam with a ring light accessory.
In terms of ports, both screen sizes offer a generous amount of them, including HDMI In and Out ports, one USB-C port, two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, one SD card reader and a headphone jack.
The Aspire S Series AIO will start from RM3,899 for the 27-inch model and retails for RM6,499 for the 31.5-inch model.
